Crossing the Raging Himalayan River Without Getting Wet

During the monsoon of 1961 in the Kumaon hills, sudden torrential cloudbursts caused the mountain rivers to swell into violent, muddy torrents carrying massive boulders and uprooted pine trees. A key wooden footbridge had been washed away, completely stranding villagers and devotees on either side of the raging current. Maharaj Ji arrived at the riverbank accompanied by two trembling disciples. The river was roaring deafeningly, and local villagers yelled from high ground warning anyone against approaching the bank: "Step back! No one can cross this flood alive!" Maharaj Ji looked at the raging waters with utter serenity. Mumbling "Ram, Ram," he calmly walked straight into the surging white water. The horrified disciples closed their eyes, expecting Baba to be swept away. When they opened them, they witnessed an impossible sight: the foaming torrent seemed to part and flatten beneath his stride. Maharaj Ji appeared to walk directly upon the surface of the waters with supreme ease, as if strolling along a peaceful garden path. Within moments, Baba stepped onto the opposite bank. Not only was he unharmed, but his dhoti and the hem of his woolen blanket were completely dry! Turning around to the awestruck crowd, he waved with a bright laugh, proving once again that the fierce laws of nature bow before the supreme surrender to God.
